Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s world has suddenly become more complicated.
With the resignation of just one cabinet minister – the veteran political lieutenant John Baird – the final months of Harper’s majority mandate are now filled with uncertainty.
As he heads towards a fall election campaign, that’s not the message Harper wants to send voters.
The Tories are selling reliability and experience. But within the last year, Harper has lost two of his most trusted ministers, both from Ontario: former Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, who resigned and later died; and now Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, who’s leaving politics.
