The Shanghai Ballet is one of China’s leading companies. The company performs classic works, but it also is actively commissioning new ballets based on Chinese stories and western stories. One recent production was based on Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. The company will appear at the National Arts Centre for the first time since 1989 on Nov. 10, 11 and 12, performing Giselle in a version adapted by the company’s guiding light artistic director Xin Lili.
