Who cares? German Chancellor Angela Merkel does. Late last year, she said her country could easily “manage” one million or more refugees from the intractable conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.
Three months ago, she was Madame Europe. She led a timid, divided European Union on refugees. Backed by Germany’s robust economy, she had also saved the euro and stiffened sanctions on a Ukraine-invading Vladimir Putin.
