Why do Ukrainians want greater integration with the European Union? Why do they want to be free of Russian influence?
The answer is clear: the Ukrainian people have a natural desire to live in a prosperous country, which is able to guarantee safety, high social standards, economic stability, and freedoms for their citizens. These can only be provided by a democratic state, the basis of which is a robust civil society. This is where democracy derives its strength from: a healthy civil society that reflects the will of the people. Ukrainians simply want to live better.
