Russian President Vladimir Putin has imposed retaliatory sanctions on 13 Canadian officials including five members of the Conservative government, three opposition party members, and the president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, banning them from entering Russia. A statement on the sanctions was issued Monday (March 24).
Russia’s foreign ministry said the sanctions are being imposed “as a response to the unacceptable actions of the Canadian side.” Over the past week the Canadian government had announced a series of sanctions against Russian and Ukrainian officials in response to the situation in Ukraine.
