Russia began a new round of air force exercises Tuesday, coinciding with NATO’s military maneuvers in the Arctic at a time of escalating tensions in the region.
700 units of military equipment, 12,000 Russian troops and up to 250 military jets began the drill on Monday. The same day, 100 fighter jets from the United States and eight European nations joined the Arctic Challenge Exercise 2015 consisting of 4,000 military personnel.
