Six former Soviet bloc countries will attend Thursday the European Union’s Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, Latvia. The meeting comes amid high tensions between Europe and Russia over the future of the region.
Communicating through translators, soldiers from the U.S. 173rd Airborne Brigade train Ukrainian national guardsmen in counterinsurgency combat. The exercises are taking place deep in the forests of western Ukraine, and are aimed at countering the Russian-backed separatists in the east.
