United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for political dialogue between Russia and Ukraine as the solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
Ban made his remarks during a stop in New Zealand Tuesday, a day after Ukrainian separatist leader Andrei Purgin said he is ready to discuss a cease-fire and prisoner exchange.
Purgin spoke at the first round of peace talks that opened Monday in the Belarussian capital, Minsk.
Pro-Russian separatists have said they are willing to remain part of Ukraine if they are granted more autonomy.
Ban is in New Zealand for meetings with Prime Minister John Key.
