The United Nations children’s agency says the conflict in Ukraine has deeply affected the lives of a half-million children living in areas not controlled by the Kyiv government and near the front lines of the fighting with pro-Russia separatists.
In a statement Friday, UNICEF said one in three of those children, numbering some 580,000, now need psychological support after two years of violence in eastern Ukraine.
The UNICEF representative in Ukraine, Giovanna Barberis, said there is a great need to reach those children to meet both their physical and their psychological needs.
