The Council of Europe’s Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights has started work on a report on the 2010 Smolensk plane crash, in which all 96 passengers died, including President Lech Kaczyński and his wife. The Council of Europe may pass a resolution on the issue after the report is prepared.
On September 6, Dutch MP Pieter Omtzigt, who was earlier part of a team investigating the crash of a Malaysia Airlines plane shot down over Ukraine in July 2014, was appointed author of the report.
